The Pamela Trokanski Dance Theatre,
a non-profit corporation
Welcome to 2011! If you're doing tax planning, and want to keep some of
your dollars working locally,
or would just like to know how you could help us
with our work,
you might want to consider a donation to the Pamela Trokanski
Dance Theatre, a 501c3, non-profit organization. As part of their mission
statement, the dance company is dedicated to, not only producing quality
performances, but to building artistic literacy in the art form and reaching out to
under served populations.

In its 26 years in Davis, the PTDT has given full season performances  (Fall &
Spring concerts with community outreach performances in between) provided over
8,000 free classes to senior citizens since 1994, created the annual Davis Dance
Project which has run since 1997 and to which children, 12 and younger, can
come for free.

Now in collaboration with the Mark Morris Dance Group, the Mondavi Center for
the Arts, and the Parkinson's Association of Northern California, the company is
helping to provide free dance classes for people with Parkinson's, beginning
February, 2011. In fact, PTDT director, Pamela Trokanski, will be one of the
co-teachers for this class.

Plus... We do good work! Sac Bee Dance Critic, Jim Carnes, says,
"
Davis choreographer Pamela Trokanski is perhaps unique among local dance
creators in being able to marry autobiography, popular culture and universal
concern into works of surprising seriousness and humor."

All money donated goes directly into programming, neither Pamela or any of the
Board Members receive either stipends or salaries for their board work, and
Pamela does not receive salary or stipend from any aspect of choreographing or
producing the concerts. To date, money from donors has helped provide free
tickets (for children, ages 12 and younger, to lecture/demonstrations/ and
performances) by helping us meet the rental and technical costs of the Veterans'
Memorial Theater, free classes for senior citizens by covering the basic rental of
the studio space, and larger equipment purchases such as chairs for Dance for
Parkinson's classes. If you're interested, send a check to Pamela Trokanski
Dance
Theatre (not the Workshop) and we thank you for your support!

What else have we done over the years?
Most currently, Pamela choreographed "Library Dance," a 15 minute piece
performed by both companies, at the December 12 Grand Re-Opening of the
Davis Public Library. This was done, for free, because we wanted to celebrate with
our community and it fell in line with our commitment to community outreach.
Additionally, both companies performed in public spaces in October and
November, 2010, (Dance Flash Mobs) as part of our interest in "Taking It to the
Streets" and bringing a dance experience to a wider range of viewers.

We've received multiple arts contracts from the city of Davis, and grants from US
Bank and Davis Waste Removal, in previous years, for a wide range of community
outreach programs, including:
       - The Community Choreography Project that brought audience, dancers,
and musicians together in the creation of a piece for performance.
       - Lecture Demonstrations & Performances that build artistic literacy
in the art form:
This included reduced price & free tickets for elementary school
tickets for:
Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Dance ...but were
afraid to ask
(deconstructing dance into its basic elements and exploring how
those elements appear in different technical styles)

Athleticism & Dance (how dance shares seven athletic qualities in
common with football, soccer, basketball, and other sports)

The Art of Dancing Art (taking visual arts pieces such as paintings,
photographs, and sculptures, and creating choreography from them.
Making
Dance
(Exploring all the different reasons that people create dances and how
those reasons shape the way those dances ultimately look)
       - Coming of Age 1993, exploring the use of the"Non-traditional" dancer in
concert dance.
       - The creation of The Third Stage, 1994, a multi-generational,
contemporary dance company.
