Pamela Trokanski received her BA in Dance from Empire State College, New York, and holds a California Teaching Credential for grades K-12 in Physical Education. While her earlier training included Jazz, Ballet, (Russian and Contemporary) African (primarily Congolese) as well as Improvisation and Contact Improvisation, her primary technical focus was on Modern dance.
She is the Director/Choreographer of the Pamela Trokanski Dance Theatre, a 501c3, non-profit organization, and The Third Stage, a multi- generational, contemporary dance company, both of which are based at the Dance Workshop. In her 26 years in Davis, she has received multiple Arts Contracts from the Davis Civic Arts Commission, as well as grants from US Bank and Davis Waste Removal, for her outreach programs for elementary school children.
She has taught dance at Davis Senior High School since 1985, where she not only developed the current course curriculum for both Introduction To Dance and Intermediate/Advanced Dance, a performance arts class, but also directs the student company, Momentum, when the budget allows that class to be taught. She was voted “Most Unforgettable DHS Female Teacher” for the academic year 2009 – 2010 by the DHS Student Body.
From 1993 to 2003, Pamela worked with the California Arts Project, teaching teachers how to use arts across the curriculum. Her work with TCAP included both Open Institutes and Invitationals at UC Davis, CSU Chico, and S. Lake Tahoe and the writing of a teachers’ guide for UC Davis Presents’ school matinee series, integrating the concert experience with the California Content Standards for the Visual and Performing Arts.
She also writes as a Dance Critic for the Davis Enterprise.
