"(The Third Stage's) dancers...move appealing
well to music, and as dancers they have
something to tell us about life with their personal
force."

"Davis choreographer Pamela Trokanski is
perhaps unique among local dance creators in
being able to marry autobiography, popular

surprising seriousness and humor."
--Sacramento Bee Dance Critic Jim Carnes

"Pamela Trokanski would seem to be a

The Third Stage Dance Company

Strong community support and critical acclaim met
The Third Stage's debut in spring 1994.
As Northern
California's only multi-generational contemporary concert
company, with dancers ranging in age from 10 - 92, its
work was a testament to the intrinsic belief that dance is
not the sole property of a technically trained elite but a
form of expression, communication, and creativity that
belongs to all people.

The Third Stage was born out of Artistic Director Pamela
Trokanski's desire to explore the aging process and its
effect on movement. Inviting different generations to work
together resulted in the formation of a group of capable
dancers with the ability to explore themes that might
require adults or children with a wider variation in age
than is found in most companies.

The strong core of dancers who formed the original Third
Stage, worked together for over a decade before
inevitable life changes brought the company to a much
smaller, less active, role. Spring of 2010 however, found
Pamela looking again for "non-traditional" dancers for the
piece "2B/nt2BCnectd.com."  The creativity and energy of
those dancers was so inspiring that Third Stage was up
and running again. This season continues their work with
the other companies.

Are you interested?
This year, auditions are September 3, 1:30-3:30pm.
However, if you just found out about us and are
interested, it's never too late to ask about the company.
Speak to Pamela or come to one of the Third Stage
classes listed on the class schedule (Thursday at 6:30)

What does it mean to be a Third Stage dancer? It means
that you are someone between the ages of 8 and 89 (?)
who wants to explore the power of movement and
connection with others, to create works of dance that tell
stories, give pause for thought, make laughter, make
tears, make change in the world.

What kind of commitment is necessary? No prior dance
training is necessary, only a willingness to make a
commitment to the work. Company class takes place on
Thursday early evenings and some Saturday afternoons,
some Sundays are required as we get closer to concert.
